What happened this week?

Music performance

How great to listen to all our students sing the two Aboriginal songs learnt in music lessons. You could sense how engaged the children had been with this learning and how proud they were to be able to show us. What a very courageous step for all our junior students to perform in front of everyone. I applaud you!

Congratulations and thank you to Mr Bartlett. We always look at ways to include more of our First Nation People’s culture and history in our curriculum and this was beautifully done.

Indonesian classes

This year, I think Mrs Taylor has been telling me every week how proud she is of all her students. It is so inspiring to hear about the achievements and see the smiles on the faces.

This week, all levels played a game where they had to match the numbers in symbols and words, but written in Indonesian. They discussed what was correct and incorrect with their partners; they counted in Indonesian; they debated about the orders and related it to the numbers in English. I know this because I heard them and it was magical!

They were fluently and easily going from English to Indonesian words, and this is exactly what we would expect from a language program. It makes your brain tick in different ways and the reasoning and problem-solving skills get stronger.
