What happened this week?

HEYFIELD PS’s ARTISTS

Each week, Mrs Merlo is going to pick a special artist from each room and exhibit their work at the office. Please do not hesitate to come and see their work. The creativity and quality of each drawing/painting is remarkable.

Let’s sing!!

Today, at assembly, we were lucky to have the surprise performance from rooms 1, 2 and 4.

The confidence in these students is contagious and the dance moves too! Well done and we cannot wait to see what’s next!

Lots of Socks Day/Crazy Socks Day

Today was a fun casual clothes day with the focus on Silly Socks to raise money for the foundation Lots of Socks.

We have raised about $76, which will go towards the foundation. This is to help raise awareness about Down Syndrome. We all wore fun socks, even our wellbeing dog: Buddy!!

“Down Syndrome or (Trisomy 21) is a condition in which a person has an extra chromosome. Chromosomes are "packages" of genes in the body. They determine how a baby's body forms and functions as it grows. Around 1 in every 800 babies will be born with Down syndrome. Down syndrome occurs naturally – there is no known cause. Down syndrome usually causes varying degrees of intellectual and physical disability and associated medical issues.”

3/4 Melbourne Camp

What a great three days we had on camp! You can tell from the photos that it was a lot of fun and we are ready to go again next year. We stayed at Urban Camp near the Melbourne Zoo, and it was a great facility to stay at.

On the first day, we visited the MCG and its Sports Museum. We learnt all about the history of the place and how they fertilise and use lamps to help grow the grass in between games! We visited the Koorie Heritage Trust and learnt about the various tools and possums’ skins to keep cool and warm, depending on the weather. We went to ScienceWorks and explored the science behind some sports, as well as learnt about the Solar System at the Planetarium. We walked around Queen Victoria market and stopped to smell, listen and watch how the meat, fish, fruit and veggies markets work. The vocabulary that will develop from these experiences is priceless and worth any late nights we had or fatigue we are feeling now.

Well done and thank you to all students and staff for a very enjoyable camp.
