Safer Routes to School: Road Safety and Poster Activity

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As part of our Safer Routes to School initiative, students will take part in a one-hour road safety session to learn about safe walking, crossing points, traffic signs, and visibility. These sessions will be run in May, 2025. To reinforce their learning, they will also design road safety posters, which will be displayed around the school to promote awareness. We encourage families to discuss road safety at home and consider walking or cycling together where possible. Please complete the survey https://forms.monday.com/forms/c876959e766578442b2963ce45e25527?r=use1 at your earliest convenience.

Thank you for helping keep children safe!

Bike Ed Challenge

Another exciting event is the return of Bike Ed Challenge, organised by Gippsport. This year, we are hosting it!

We have not set the time yet, but it will take place on Tuesday 10th June. We are hoping to have Cowwarr PS, Rosedale PS, St Michael’s PS joining us for a couple of hours. It is yet to be decided if it will be for grades 5/6 students only, or for 3-6 students.

I will keep you posted!

A snapshot around the school…

Museum Visit

On Thursday, students from grades 3/4 had the privilege to visit the Heyfield Museum, guided by the fantastic volunteers. They were amazed by the objects people used in their every day lives, such as ‘those big cups’! It was quite interesting to see faces of mixed emotions when they were told they weren’t ‘cups’, and it used to be placed under the beds in case ‘we needed to go’ during the night.

These young minds will head off to Melbourne for a three-day camp on Wednesday. They will be able to compare and think about what has changed in our society. They will also have much fun, especially when going to an AFL footy game on Thursday night!

COOKING ANZAC BISCUITS

Grade 1/2 students learned about the ANZACs in many ways this past week. They walked to the cenotaph with Mrs Taylor during their library session and they cooked ANZAC cookies together. This is a rich experience where learners can build literacy and numeracy skills, while learning about History and our community.

ART ROOM

Students learned more about ANZAC Day in the Art Room. After reading the book ‘I was only nineteen’, they drew soldiers or used the symbol of the hour glass to reflect on the past and present. It is beautiful to see such creative ways to commemorate this part of History. We will remember them. Lest we forget.

While I was in the Art room, I took more photos of other samples. Thank you Mrs Merlo for guiding students’ imagination. Between Mrs Taylor, Mrs Merlo, Mr Bartlett and each classroom teachers, our students have the chance to experience and broaden their creative minds and it is great to see.

ANZAC DAY MARCH

Thank you to everyone who marched yesterday, representing our school. Lissy Johnson and Makayla Southey, our school vice-captains laid a wreath and many of the students who attended walked proudly together to the RSL.

Thank you to all staff and parents who walked with us too.
