Welcome to the Heyfield Primary School website.
Our staff is committed to providing quality educational opportunities for all students. Our present enrolment is 112 students in Prep through to Year 6, within 6 composite classes. We have small class sizes to allow for more specific and individualised learning.
Our school instructional model “The Sunflower of Learning”, aims to cater for the academic, social and emotional needs for each of our students.
We make a commitment that each child, at Heyfield PS, will be cared for as a whole, with their wellbeing considered as important as their academic growth.
The school has modern classroom facilities and has gone through the process of adding a new building in 2020. Our school includes 8 classrooms, a multipurpose room, a large art room and a fully stocked library. Reading is a very important part of our curriculum and we encourage and support our students to enjoy what they read, as well as gaining vital skills of comprehension. We have a specialist Librarian who guides students to choose books according to their interests. Maths is another area of focus for our school and teachers have the chance to work with our Maths specialist often. They strive to make Maths an engaging subject that everyone enjoys learning. Our Reading Intervention leader is dedicated to build growth in every student. Our Reading Intervention Program has been very successful, with all students showing progress in their ability to decode but most importantly to understand what they read, as well as devloping a love for reading.
Our Specialist programs include Art, Music, Physical Education, Library, Social Skills and Indonesian / Global Studies. Students access modern Information Communications Technology (ICT) facilities.
We value our students’ input in decisions for our school and there are many student leadership opportunities: School Captains, House Captains, Junior School Councillors, Bus Captains, Library Monitor, Computer Monitors, Transition Leaders, Environmental Leaders and Lunchtime Activity Leaders.

We often remind ourselves of the 3 gates “Is it Necessary? Is it True? Is it Kind?” and always link them back to our school values. Our student leaders refer to these and are role models to their peers.

Our School is committed to providing a child safe and child friendly environment, where students are safe and feel safe.
Our child safety and wellbeing policies outline the measures and strategies we have in place to support, promote and maintain the safety and wellbeing of our students and are available from school reception upon request.

Parent payments
Under the Department of Education and Training’s Parent Payments Policy, Victorian government schools are required to provide transparent information to their school community on voluntary parent/carer contributions.
The documents outlining the voluntary parent/carer contributions at our school are available from school reception upon request.

Staff
The Heyfield Primary School staff team are committed to inspired education through a best practice administration. We are here to equip the next generation with the traditional values and modern skills.
School Council
The School Council is accountable for school evaluation,
school finances, the maintenance of school grounds and
buildings as well as the general oversight of the working of the school.
School Council elections are held in Term 1 every year. Councillors serve a two year term of office with half retiring each year. Parents, new and old are invited to nominate for positions on the School Council and/or to attend meetings.
The Council of Heyfield Primary School comprises
representatives of parents, teachers and community co-opted members.
The major responsibility of the School Council is that of deciding the educational policy of this school. School Councillors, the wider parent community and teachers share a common responsibility for the education of the children.
Parents and Friends
The school receives excellent support from parents in all aspects of school life including classroom activities, in-service programs and policy decision-making.
Support is also provided by an enthusiastic Parents & Friends Association along with a committed and caring staff and School Council.
The Parents & Friends club meets each month during school hours and all parents are most welcome to join.

Student Leadership
Junior School Council is a quorum of middle and senior year students who represent the entire student population in formal and informal decision making and leadership opportunities.
Emphasis is on community support, fundraising, student participation and safety.
Demonstration of our core school values of Respect, Aspire, Resilience & Engagement are central to any leadership role within the school.
There are a variety of opportunities with differing levels of responsibility students can participate in. Student leaders are true leaders and initiate projects around the school, such as our link with a local farmer collecting our compost.
