What a great last week for the year!

New Preps - 2023

Our brand new Prep students enjoyed a whole day at school during the Statewide Orientation Day on Tuesday. They were presented with their school hat during assembly, in the afternoon and all of them seemed keen to come back next year! Phew!!

Grade 6 students’ special week

The week was filled with fun either at their Secondary School of choice or here. On Tuesday, Mac and Banjo found the dress-ups and had a ball walking in high heels and teaching prep students wearing wigs.

On Wednesday, graduation was the highlight with pizzas for dinner, Golden Syrup Dumpling (Thank you very much Belinda Stuart!) and Graduation cake. All students conducted themselves with great confidence and delivered some fantastic speeches.

On Friday, our traditional T-Ball game saw staff winning for the 100th year in a row, I am told. Students disagree, but this was to be excepted, they would be very disappointed after training every day. Maybe next year’s group will win! The day continued with the yearly water fight and followed by the last assembly where we had the chance to watch the graduation dance again and to say goodbye.

Again well done to everyone, and especially to:

Jett Dillon and Hayden Van Baalen who received the School Council awards for being a positive citizen of the school, creative, self-driven and inspiring.

Chelsea Ross and Kobe Parsons who received the Lions awards for making meaningful contributions to the school and displaying examplar behaviour.

Nayte Grogan and Jaxson Pettigrew-Hughes who received the RSL awards for showing a great sense of citizenship and community focused.

Paige Hosford who received the PE Award for showing commitment and taking risks with her sports.

Annabelle Poore who received the ART Award for being creative, taking risks and always displaying a positive attitude towards the learning of ART.

Mac Birss who received the LOTE Award for displaying a growth mindset and resilience when learning languages.

Zavier Gauld who received the Principal Award, as an Encouragement Award for showing outstanding improvement in building resilience and confidence.

More Learning

Our Senior students started a Value Tree, which is far from what I first thought.. there is no money on that tree! However, you can read what our students aspire to be and do. A beautiful idea that all students in the school will be expanding on next year.

We also had an afternoon of playing board games in room 5, with parents/relatives or friends invited to join the fun. Learning to socialise through games is important and taking turns or losing/winning with grace can be a huge learning curve!

Our group who learn about MyTown, with Emma Birchall, linked their learning to solar schools by investigating why we need the sun. They grew some plants from seeds and looked at how much our school is collecting and using the sun, via our solar panels. Definitely more learning to be done on this next year! Huge thank you to Emma for organising the sessions on Wednesday afternoons.

Lastly, we had Brenton Dinsdale from GippSport run workshops for our students with the focus on wheelchair basketball.

School Choir

Our choir performed in many places last week! At Laurina Lodge to start with, then at the Christmas Carols at the Apex Park on Saturday. Darcey Vanderland won first prize for her dress-up as a present and Indianna Lockett winning second prize. Well done! Very creative!

Specialists Classes

In the past week, students got to dance and celebrate the end of the year in Music. In Art, they attempted to make the longest decoration and see if it could around the building. They also read their last books during the last Library lesson for the year. Make sure you remember to bring back your books!

Let’s see who will be the second best grade!! Room 8 has already won first place!!
