What happened this week?

Message from Mr Bartlett

Our senior guitar group will perform next week, 15th March. Thanks again to all of our wonderful staff (and parents) for coming to our assemblies and supporting music at Heyfield Primary School.

Don’t forget to come to The GranPam & PhilPop Show today, in Maffra! It’s free and I would love to see you there!

Wednesday fun!

This week, students got to choose another activity from the rotations.

Two of our new preppies, Jaycob and River had much fun doing some gardening! While Declan and othes made flowers to decorate the town Library.

Archer, Kai and Ayden decided to keep going with their activities on another day, to make sure it was finished!

Timber Mill Visit

Last Monday, all students from 3-6 were lucky to visit the mill in Heyfield. They learnt how the wood is cut and transported, amongst a lot of other information regarding the Timber industry. This will become an annual event, and we are very happy that all students will get to experience this learning.

On this topic aligned with the Timber Festival, Leanne presented at assembly the prizes to the winners, for the Artwork that was exhibited at the festival.

Heath Valentine received first prize, Teddy Dinsdale got second prize and Kodi Ratten received third.

Swimming Carnival - Wellington District

Congratulations to Elsie and Maggie Smith for going to the next round of the swimming carnival, and representing our school. They came third each in their race.

You can be very proud. Thank you to Lyndal for taking them there!

Random snaps

The choir did a brilliant job at assembly yesterday and I encourage all parents, grand-parents, family and friends to come and listen to our students play or sing from time to time. Their performances are truly amazing.

Maffra Secondary College sent a couple of former students to talk to our grade 5 and 6 students. Darcy Hanson, one of our school captains last year was very confident and telling his peers about his experience so far.

Room 8 had fun learning and using miniature animals to help them visualise their work. As a staff, we are investigating the importance of concrete manipulatives in our students’ learning. This is because we know, that, in the development of children, our students are still to reach fully the ‘abstract stage’ and most still need support of more hands-on in their learning.

Purple Day for Epilepsy

Ace Brown found out that Epilepsy is a chronic neurological condition that causes an individual to experience recurrent seizures. It is the most common neurological disorder, affecting about 4% of Australians. Epilepsy may be a lifelong condition, but seizures can often be controlled using medication.

It is important to raise money and jelp with research to find a way to cure it. Yesterday, our school raised $150, with Leanne from the Timber Festival donating some money too after assembly! Spread the word and we may be able to raise even more next year!

It was great to see you all in purple! Next fundraiser is for Silly sock day, on 21st March.
