What happened this week at Heyfield Primary School?
Spelling Bee Competition
On Monday, Heyfield PS hosted the last of the zone finals (Wellington) Spelling Bee competition. Cowwarr PS, Heyfield PS, Nambrok-Denison PS, Guthridge PS, St Mary's PS , St Anne's and Gippsland Grammar Junior School and Yarram Secondary College took part in this event and all students set a high standard of spelling and sportsmanship.
The year 5 winner is Nash Monaghan from Guthridge PS. The year 6 winner is Josiah Gubaton from Guthridge PS. Both secondary students came from Yarram SC, with Nat Morrey winning the year 7 title and Alexis Ireland for year 8.
Special encouragement to our local students: Jack Gell, Hannah Sibley, Zavier Gauld and Hayden Van Baalen for representing Heyfield Primary School.
The winner for year 6 successfully spelt ‘delicatessen’! Would you have got it right too?

Junior School Councillors
During our meeting this week, we have discussed:
- Footy colour day: We will have this dress-up day just for fun. It will be on the last Friday of this term. No gold coin donation. GO BLUES!
- Colour run: We will do it at the end of November.
- R U OK? Day: Next Thursday 8th September. Wear yellow!
- Black Dog Institute: Walk throughout October to raise awareness to Mental Health with maybe a walk to the wetlands. Mrs Bradford will register our school. It is called ‘One Foot Forward’.
- Remembrance Day: Making poppies at lunchtime before the day.
House Captains
The borrowing of equipment will be from the multipurpose room from now on. Only House captains can borrow out equipment and give out raffle tickets. Students will need to return equipment to the multipurpose room at the end of recess and lunch to receive a ticket of the value of 2 House Points.
Fundraisers
Thank you to everyone involved in helping fundraise money for our school.
Firstly, to the parents and students, and ex-students who helped with the car wash over last weekend. The Lions Club will donated up to $1000 to go towards our air conditioners, which is a significant amount.
Also, thank you to all parents who came to the Fathers and Others’ Day stalls over the past two days and helped our students choose, purchase and wrap their gifts. All students looked so excited and ready for Sunday.
The air conditioners have been installed and ready for use!
